Special thanks to AO-san for commissioning me to translate this series and for letting me publish it for everyone to read 🙂
Yes, this is a commissioned translation, not a series I am picking up. Since there will be lots of parts later on, I have made the table of content here.
Feel free to comment below if you have any question, edit suggestion, or even any impression for the series/update itself!
Note:
Volume 3 chapter 2 ended with Egil and Kaya’s lovey dovey night, which is more or less equal to the WN translation chapter 68. The difference was how the chapter in the light novel didn’t have the scene where Elizabeth/Fie was peeking at them, just Egil and Kaya being lovey dovey.
Name Changes (based on the light novel):
Serina → Selina
Runa → Luna
Fi- → Fie
Levia → Reveie
Setsuna → Kaya

Chapter 3
Choice as A Wife, Not as A Slave
Part 1/4
–During the time Egil and Kaya were entangled.
Fie was alone in a room, talking with the white rabbit, Elizabeth.
“–Yesterday I said that we’d be back late, but since it’s going in a favourable direction, I think we could return soon. There isn’t any problem over there, right?”
She was communicating with Eleanor and the others who were waiting in the Fezelis continent. The communication has been going every night ever since they came here without fail. This isn’t Egil’s order, but Fie’s own initiative just to ensure the safety of the four people who remained, and to make sure they knew of Egil’s condition as well.
[…Actually…]
And so Eleanor began to talk about the incident that occured in the kingdom.

Let’s slightly rewind the time back, to the night before Egil and Kaya were entangled.
[–With that being said, I think it’d take a bit of time before we can return.]
Eleanor, Selina, Sana, and Luna–the four of them received a report from Fie who accompanied Egil to the Spuhreel continent, through the hamster, Golfas. The girls were sitting around a table, listening to Fie’s words through the hamster that was before their eyes.
Hearing that their return would be late, the four of them understood but they couldn’t help but feel a little bit down.
Despite that, Eleanor forcibly tried to put on a big smile on her face.
“I understand. Fie-san, please take care of Egil-sama.”
[…Yeah. Egil said, ‘No matter how trivial it is, tell me. If anything happens, we’d return quickly,’ after all.]
“Got it. Then, if there’s anything, I’ll be relying on you.”
[…Yeah. Well then.]
A voice akin to a thread being cut was heard before the hamster walked away with small steps and disappeared from sight.
Selina looked up at the ceiling and sighed several times.
“That is a given, right? Ah–, I’ve been together with him all this time, now I’m feeling lonely. Ah–, when will he return I wonder, how lonely…”
“Selina, it can’t be helped even if you say that. Let’s wait until Master returns, bringing the people of the Lake Metropolis.”
“That’s right. Still, it’s lonely… Ah, then shall we sleep together with Sana and Luna today? Hey, what do you think?”
“What’s up with you so suddenly?”
When Eleanor asked, Selina showed a strained smile.

“It’s just that I’ve been sleeping with Egil-san all this time… How do I say it, I suddenly feel lonely… That’s why sometimes, they remind me of my two younger sisters and I want to hug them.”
“So that’s why. Selina has two younger sisters, right?”
“Yeah… They’re slightly younger than Sana and Luna, I think.”
Since Egil-san, who had always been with her, was suddenly gone, Selina suddenly remembered her family and became lonely. Sympathizing with that, Sana and Luna grasped Selina’s hand.
“I also feel lonely, so I’d be happy to sleep with Selina-san!”
“M-me too… If I can do that, I’d feel calmer.”
“Then, Onee-chan1 will sleep with you today, okay?”
“Fuffun,” Selina cooed happily.
“Then, I will also sleep together with the three of you.”
“Eh–, if Eleanor joins, it will be too noisy and we wouldn’t be able to sleep, so no.”
“Please don’t say that. Besides–rather than being left alone, being together with everyone is better, right?”
Eleanor said with her voice softening in the middle of it, then the four of them turned to look in the same direction.

At the end of their gazes was a man. He was gazing at the scenery outside the window with a sultry expression, but then he turned his head to receive the four girls’ gazes and showed a carefree smile.
“Oh, young girls, have you finished your conversation?”
He was the adventurer that Habrik hired to protect the nameless kingdom during the time when Egil was away. The man with a deep curved sword around his left waist was smiling even when he received the four girls’ cold gazes.
“No–, the view from here is far better than the view from below. Should I also live here, I wonder–”
No matter what, Eleanor and the others couldn’t get a strong image that could protect this nameless kingdom well from the man with a laid-back aura.
He was wearing shabby clothes without any metal, and the only property he brought was only one sword that was hanging on his waist. And the sword itself might not be an expensive one, one could tell from its worn-out and ragged state.
He has a hunchback and is around 160 cm tall–which is below average for a male, and looking at the wrinkles on his face, he seemed to be in the latter half of his thirties. Accompanying his slightly aged face was a pair of brown eyes.
His hair–originally–was of a pretty light brown color, but it was quite damaged that it looked like a dark brown color instead.
And lastly, the one that gave off the dubious vibe to him was his beard that he let grow untended. His stubble was neither cool nor it gave off a clean impression, instead it gave off a bad first impression.
“Even though he was the person Habrik-san chose, I could only think of him as a bad person…”
In response to Eleanor’s small voice that revealed her true thought, the other three were…
“No matter how you look at him, he’s way too dubious. Did Habrik-san get the wrong person?”
“I think so, too. He doesn’t seem to be reliable at all.”
“M-me too… I don’t really understand it, but he doesn’t seem to be a good person.”
All of them showed a bitter expression. However, the man continued to look outside the window with excitement at the starry sky, just like a child, without knowing that the girls were bad-mouthing him in their whispers.

“Oh–, as expected, the scenery you can see changes depending on where you live. Hey, did Egil also enjoy the scenery from here?”
He knew about Egil, does that mean he’s Egil’s acquaintance? But Egil is quite famous among the adventurers, so it isn’t odd for others to at least know his name.
Eleanor put on a fake smile as she answered.
“Egil-sama doesn’t view the stars quite often. He isn’t really fond of the nightscape.”
“What, that’s a waste. …Well, he’s been that kind of person since the olden days, after all.”
“Since the olden days?”
“Hm, aah, no, …it’s a personal matter. More importantly, I’m a little tired after traveling. Which room should I use? I have a little bit of a childish trait where I can’t sleep unless the bed is high enough. Ah, can I borrow his room? If it’s there–”
“–You can’t!”
Selina answered right away. She stood up as she slapped the table, thus receiving everyone’s gazes. She cleared her throat, feeling slightly embarrassed.
“…You can’t use Egil-san’s room.”
Egil’s room is used for his and the girls’ ‘nightly’ activities. The aftermath scent still remained there. The girls definitely wouldn’t want to have another man sleeping in that room. The man was slightly astonished upon receiving such a swift refusal and then said,
“Hmmmm, I see. Then, which room should I use?”
Upon being asked again, Eleanor stood up and said,
“There is a vacant room, I will guide you there. The three of you please wait here.”
Leaving the other three, Eleanor led the man into the said vacant room.
After a short walk from this abandoned castle, there was a residential area in the castle town, but that place still couldn’t be categorized as a place where people were living.
The house’s floorboard was corroded, and the walls were falling out. The furniture was also scattered, and they were still covered in dust even now.
That place couldn’t be used for this man to lodge–since, be as dubious he was–he was still someone who would be protecting this nameless kingdom.
“Over here.”
With her ringing high heels, Eleanor left the room. The other three who remained were concerned that she would be walking with the man alone, but Eleanor completely didn’t have any fear of being attacked, nor was she concerned about her safety.
“This might only be my imagination, but I feel like I’ve seen that sword’s crest somewhere…”
What piqued Eleanor’s interest was a slightly rusty crest akin to the [Island Floating in the Starry Sky] that was engraved in the scabbard of the worn-out sword.
There was a rule for the people who belong to a kingdom to attach the kingdom’s crest to their weapon and armor, or to engrave the pattern of the crest that symbolized the country.
Although she had no recollection of where the kingdom was, Eleanor felt like she had seen the crest of the Island Floating in the Starry Sky somewhere.

Eleanor was wearing a bright red dress with a part of her breasts being exposed, that was made from a first-class fabric. Behind her, a middle-aged man with a slightly hunched back was following suit. As Eleanor walked down the long hallway, she tried to ask for his name.
“Ludhiana Morishe-sama, is it?”
“Hm, yeah, that’s my name.”
She had heard about this name from Habrik.
–Ludhiana.
That was his name, but Eleanor’s mind was stuck at something else about it.
“Ludhiana… What a girlish name.”
“…Hahaa, I was often told that.”
“Right? If I was told only your name, I might mistake you for a woman. However, you’re a man… weird, isn’t it?”
“Well, that’s right.”
The two of them were talking without clearly sounding their true thoughts. Eleanor guessed that even if she were to ask to find out the truth from him, he wouldn’t tell her. If that was the case, she could only look for hints from his words.
Neither Habrik nor Gossendorf told her anything about him. The only information they told was just ‘He’s a strong person that can be trusted”. However, she might be able to ask about it from Egil in oneshot. Yet, Eleanor didn’t do that. She didn’t want to cause Egil to worry about something unnecessary.
It was quite difficult over there right now. In addition, she didn’t want to really doubt the man that was introduced by Habrik and Gossendorf that Egil absolutely trusted.
“Please use this room over here.”
“Hm, here, huh… By the way, I have several questions I’d like to ask you, Miss, would that be okay?”
The man called Ludhiana had his previously joking around expression completely change into a serious expression.
