Chapter 5

A Home Where Our Family Could Return to

Part 1/3

–Tracing back to the time where Eleanor and the others were headed towards the Felistina kingdom as per Silva’s suggestion.

“–Young misses, we will soon arrive.”

From within the carriage that departed from the nameless kingdom, they confirmed that the castle walls of their destination place, the Felistina kingdom, could be seen.

The four girls–Eleanor, Selina, Sana, and Luna–were inside the carriage, while the coachman pedestal in front of them was occupied by two horses that were handled by Silva.

“That is the Felistina kingdom, huh–?”

Sana popped up her face from within the carriage as her mouth was opened widely in surprise, and Luna who was sitting next to her was also surprised.

“Whoa–, it’s so big, isn’t it, Sana?!”

Sana and Luna were clad in black dresses.

There was a shining crystal embedded at the chest part of the two’s dresses, and those dresses transformed the two girls who still had some childishness left, into completely grown-up women. Nonetheless, it was the two’s first time wearing dresses. The long skirt that covered their body up until their ankles seemed to be a nuisance, and they gave off a slightly clumsy feel. Even when they walked, since they weren’t very used to wearing shoes with high heels, they were stiff in some ways.

“It’s my first time going here too, so I might be a little bit nervous.”

Selina, who was adorned in a brilliant blue dress, was sitting as her face displayed some nervousness as they were getting closer to their place of destination.

After glancing at the three girls, Eleanor shifted her gaze towards the outside.

“We’re coming here just to explain things, there’s no need to be so nervous.”

Eleanor, who was wearing an amorous red dress emphasizing her breasts, looked at the three of them with a smile. Sana and Luna nodded at Eleanor’s words that had a calming atmosphere somewhere, while Selina who was sitting next to them had a troublesome explanation.

“It’s our first time, after all. Aren’t you nervous, Eleanor?”

“That’s right… I was nervous before we departed, but now I’m fine.”

She had decided to be resolute before coming here. Although she didn’t know how the results would be, it was decided that they’d take action, so she wasn’t nervous. Selina nodded as if she agreed to Eleanor’s confident reply.

“That’s right. It’s decided that we’d be going. But, I wonder if the nameless kingdom will be alright, with us gone and not watching over it?”

“Hart-san and the others, as well as the adventurers are protecting it, so I think it will be alright.”

Only the five of them were headed towards the Felistina kingdom, while Gossendorf and Habrik, then Hart and the adventurers who were lending their hands remained on alert in the nameless kingdom.

According to Silva, there weren’t that many monsters attacking, so it would be no problem. Even so, Golfas the hamster–that Fie left as a means of communication–remained in the kingdom so in case the monsters came attacking while they were away, they could immediately return. While Phoenix the small bird traveled together with Eleanor and the others.

If something were to happen, Fie who was in the faraway continent would be informed.

“Now then, young misses, we’ve arrived.”

Even while they were inside the carriage, the continuing castle wall leading to the royal castle could be seen. There was a long line of carts in front of it, perhaps they were peddlers.

The horse carriage that Eleanor and the others rode on slowly progressed, then stopped right before the two gatekeepers whose whole bodies were clad in the heavy silver armors.

“–Do you have any permit?”

When entering and leaving the kingdom, the peddlers had to show their permit so that they could do their business there, while adventurers needed to show their adventurer card. It was necessary in order to prove their identity. And then, Silva shook his head to the left and right before taking out a card from his chest.

“Nah, ain’t got a permit. Got this in exchange.”

Even from afar, anyone could tell that what Silva presented was an adventurer card. The gatekeeper that saw it seemed to be surprised as his eyes widened, then he opened up the road that had been blocked in a hurry.

“G-go ahead!”

“Thankies!”

As he raised his hand and the carriage moved, Selina tilted her head in wonder.

“…As expected, Silva-san is an awesome adventurer, huh?”

“Perhaps, that is so…”

Before coming here, Eleanor had revealed Silva’s identity to the three girls. At first, she had wanted to do so after Egil returned, but since they were coming to the Felistina kingdom, there wasn’t any necessity to hide Silva’s identity. Conversely, if his identity hadn’t been revealed, the three girls might be anxious due to wondering about his background.

Although the three girls were surprised in the beginning, since they had come to know of his skills during when he was protecting the nameless kingdom from the monsters’ attacks, they could accept it relatively quick, and they didn’t throw a barrage of questions–however, everyone wanted to know more about Ludhiana, the slave that was also Egil’s childhood friend that gave him a painful memory. The reason was most likely because they felt around the same great anger as Eleanor’s.

“But the alias ‘Sword King’ is just lacking the style, don’t you think?”

“It gives off a dubious feel instead, right?”

Selina turned her gaze towards the front as her eyes narrowed. Sana and Luna also shifted their gazes to Silva’s direction as they nodded.

“Well, that’s right. Doesn’t that mean he used that alias because people wouldn’t be able to tell that based on his appearance alone?”

As they were talking about that, the object of the gossip, Silva, was unaware as he turned his face behind and said,

“Young misses, we will soon arrive at the royal palace, so should I join up with my acquaintances there?”

“You have acquaintances?”

“Yeah, I’ve got plans to meet up with my acquaintances in front of the castle… Oh, there they are.”

There was a stone bridge built over the royal castle’s surrounding canal in order to defend themselves from the enemy attacks. After crossing over the bridge, there was a big golden gate that was also the entrance to the royal castle, and next to it, there was a woman who folded her arms as her back leaned on the wall.

Then, Silva stopped the carriage in front of that woman as he lifted his hand.

“Yo, sorry for making you wait, Rino.”

“…You’ve finally arrived, huh?”

Unlike the lively smile that Silva had on his face, the woman let out her voice that was filled with sigh as her sharp eyes–that were akin to a blade–pierced him. With her roughly 170 cm height, she was considered to be tall as a woman, and the large sword riding on her right shoulder was just as big.

Her facial features were well-regulated, and she was evidently a beauty. Her firm hips and voluptuous breasts added to her womanly charm. Wearing a set of clothes that exposed the skin of her abdomen and thighs, she was especially eye-catching to the males. However,

“…Sorry, your ass. Bastard, you’re too late. How long do you think I’ve been waiting here?”

The color of her hair was mixed, with red and black alternating one after another. With her hair being put together at the back and Rino’s tone when speaking gave off a heroic impression.

The masculine Rino’s sharp gaze that was on Silva then turned to Eleanor and the other three girls.

“…You guys, are you the women who’re living together with Egil?”

Eleanor silently nodded in response to Rino’s question that gave off an intimidating air.

“…I see. Then, get down from the carriage and come here.”

Having said that, Rino walked ahead.

Then, while walking towards the castle gate, Silva gave an explanation about Rino to the four girls.

“This fellow is Rino Earsht. She comes from the village that Egil and I protected from the monsters.”

The village that Silva mentioned was none other than the village where Egil had lived for a period of time when he was rescued by Silva after being betrayed by the slave that was his childhood friend. Eleanor responded by saying, “That is so?”

“Also, this fellow was taught swordsmanship by Egil. That’s why Rino is also his acquaintance.”

Rino was unresponsive even in the middle of that explanation. Rather than that, she gave off the impression that she was listening, yet she didn’t want to join the conversation.

By gathering here, it means that she would be coming to the audience with the king in the royal castle. Since that was the case, it’d be good for them to interact even only a little. As Eleanor thought so, she walked alone and called out to Rino.

“Uhm, my name is Eleanor. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“…Yeah.”

“Errr, I am Selina.”

After Selina, Sana and Luna also greeted her, but Rino only nodded and gave a short reply. It felt like she didn’t really want to get too close to them. Eleanor and the others interpreted it that way and walked without saying anything. Then, Silva wryly smiled.

“Ah–, sorry. She has a fear of strangers, so she might not be that sociable with those she met for the first time. Though her eyes and disposition might be a problem, she isn’t a bad person. Get along well with her, okay?”

Perhaps his words got on her nerves somewhere, Rino suddenly stopped walking, turned around and glared at Silva.

“…Oi, Silva. If both the eyes and disposition are a problem, wouldn’t that be terrible?”

“Hm, do you mind it?”

“Obviously, anyone would mind. Anyway, don’t say such strange things to those I just met for the first time.”

“If that’s the case, why don’t you just talk normally with them? As always, you’ve got such a troublesome disposition.”

“Shuttup, leave me alone!”

“Well, you haven’t changed at all. Speaking of which, in the olden days, Egil’s–”

“–Wha, bastard! If you say another ridiculous stuff after this, I’ll kill you, alright?!”

Rino’s face reddened–perhaps due to her embarrassment–as she brought the sword that she carried on her shoulders down. However, Silva ignored Rino and clapped his hands as if he just recalled something, as he started cackling.

“However, there’s still something that had some growth, huh? When you were little, your chest was so small, and now it’s this big–”

“–Oi, didn’t I tell you not to say any unnecessary stuff?”

Rino had a serious expression that was even scarier than her sharp eyes from earlier, and Silva raised both of his hands in response.

“Ah–, got it, got it. I won’t say anything, so don’t be so mad.”

Then, perhaps the conversation was over as Rino only sighed and began walking again.

Smiles returned to the faces of Selina and the others as they had a doubt whether the two people before them had a good or bad relationship. After knowing that the reason behind Rino’s unfriendliness was due to her fear of strangers, they felt relieved. But unlike the three girls, Eleanor was envious of the relationship between Silva and Rino.

These two people were close. And with Egil as well.

She felt a bit envious towards the two of them who got to know Egil’s past that she had no knowledge of. Although such jealousy towards the stuff from the past couldn’t be helped at all.

“Eleanor-san, what’s the matter?”

“Eh, what do you mean?”

Sana and Luna, who were walking next to her, were looking with a concerned look. ‘Did I make them worry?’ Eleanor thought so as she smiled and shook her head.

“No, everything’s alright.”

After she answered, Eleanor and the others arrived in front of the castle gate.

Deep inside the gate that was several times taller than a man, the sharp-pointed roof of the castle could be seen.

“Then, let’s hurry and ask for an audience. Girls, you wait here.”

“Are you sure we don’t have to come along?”

“Mhm, no problem. It’s only to talk about whether or not they’ll listen to us or not, after all.”

Saying that, Silva and Rino greeted the gatekeepers who were standing in front of the castle gate.

“Hey, Eleanor. Is it fine to let only the two of them come in?” I don’t really understand the stuff about coming to a kingdom, but shouldn’t there be some kind of a procedure?”

“That’s right… I’ll be worried if it’s just Silva-san alone, but Rino-san is also there, so there shouldn’t be a blunder. They’re only there to ask for an audience. We still don’t know whether they’ll refuse it or not, but…”

The king would surely be having an audience with hundreds of people in a day. The one having an audience with him could be another country’s royalty, their own country’s aristocrat, and even merchants from a major company should time and circumstances permit. Therefore, it can be assumed that they would be waiting for their turn.

Silva and Rino were only going to make such an appointment. Thinking so, Eleanor and the others waited as they were told to.

Then, the gatekeeper ran inside the royal castle in a hurry. A few minutes later, the gatekeeper returned to tell Silva something, and Silva then beckoned Eleanor and the others.

“Oooii, girls. It’s alright to come in.”

Silva called out to Eleanor and the others.

In case the audience would be held another day, they’d come back first. They thought that the audience would be held several days later, but since he asked them to come inside, it meant that they would be able to have an audience within today.

Eleanor approached Silva in a fluster.

“Silva-san, are we going to have the audience today…?”

After passing through the gate, Eleanor asked Silva, and he answered with a wry smile.

“Hm, isn’t the king too free? They told us that we’d be able to see him immediately. Well, isn’t that great? Now, let’s hurry and go there before he changes his mind.”

In response to Eleanor’s question, Silva and Rino didn’t say anything and just went to enter the castle.

Selina, Sana, and Luna didn’t seem to mind it, but Eleanor, who had been raised as a princess, was suspicious. It was fundamental for an audience to be held another day after its request was filed. Even if there was nothing on the schedule that day, one would normally place a certain period of waiting time in order to check the visitor’s background.

–Contrary to thinking that it was great, it felt out of place instead.

Perhaps the reason why they were let in was due to Silva’s adventurer card that he showed to the gatekeeper.

Normally, it would be difficult to receive a renowned aristocrat or S-rank adventurer. If so, there was a possibility that Silva was an even greater of an adventurer than one initially thought, or that he was a person whose standing was well-known throughout the world.

“…I can’t confirm nor doubt it at this moment.”

Eleanor muttered alone as she looked at Silva and Rino’s back as they were walking in front of her. If she were to do that, it would be implying that she didn’t trust them.

Then, Eleanor and the others were taken by several knights to enter the castle.
